Seiko Mod GMT Master : L'Aventurier des Fuseaux Horaires

Seiko Mod GMT Master: The Time Zone Adventurer

In 1955, Rolex and Pan American World Airways collaborated to create a watch for transatlantic pilots. The brief: to display two time zones simultaneously. The result: the GMT Master, with its iconic two-tone bezel and extra hand. Our Seiko Mod GMT Master II reproduces this same functionality – with a true NH34 GMT movement – for less than €300.

The NH34 movement – the real difference

What distinguishes a true GMT watch from a simple watch with a decorative hand: the ability to set the GMT hand independently of the others.

Our Seiko Mod GMT is equipped with the NH34A GMT movement – the only affordable automatic caliber with this feature. Here's what it offers:

  • Independent GMT hand – adjustable hour by hour via the crown, without interfering with the main hands
  • Simultaneous reading – the GMT hand points to the two-tone 24h bezel (red = day, blue = night) to read the time in the second time zone
  • Automatic winding – like all NH movements, the NH34 winds on the wrist. 41 hours power reserve.

A practical tip: set the GMT hand to Paris time (your "home" time zone), and keep the main hands on the local time zone. When you return from a trip to New York, you only need to adjust the local hands – Paris time remains displayed permanently.

GMT bezels – Pepsi, Batman, Sprite, Rootbeer: which one to choose?

The two-tone GMT bezel is its most recognizable element. Each color has its history and personality:

🔴🔵 Pepsi (Red & Blue) – the original bezel

The original color of the 1955 GMT Master. The absolute reference. Red for day, blue for night. It's the most popular color in our GMT collection – for good reason: it's the original, the authentic, the iconic. The Pepsi color is particularly difficult to obtain on an original Rolex (3-5 year waiting list for the 126710BLRO).

⚫🔵 Batman (Black & Blue) – the quintessential modern colorway

Launched by Rolex in 2013, the Batman quickly became the favorite GMT color of contemporary watch enthusiasts. Black is more subtle than red, blue remains legible. Ideal for those who want a versatile GMT, worn on all occasions. Our Batman model in steel or in Batgirl version (for smaller wrists) is our second best-selling GMT.

🟢⚫ Sprite (Green & Black) – the exciting newcomer

Launched by Rolex in 2022, the green/black Sprite is the sensation of contemporary watchmaking. The green color is on-trend (Money Green, Hulk, Sprite) – and this bezel perfectly captures the 2020-2025 aesthetic. If you want a GMT with a modern twist, Sprite is the choice.

🟤🥇 Rootbeer (Brown & Gold) – warm elegance

The two-tone Rootbeer is the most "dressy" of our GMT collection. The brown/gold combination visually warms the watch and makes it particularly suitable for formal or semi-formal occasions. Available in two-tone version (steel + rose gold).

⚫ Black Bezel – discreet and effective

For those who want GMT functionality without the visibility of the two-tone bezel. The uniform black bezel makes the watch more sober, more professional.

How to use the GMT?

If you've never had a GMT watch, here are the steps:

  1. Pull the crown to position 1 (intermediate click)
  2. Turn to adjust the GMT hand (red or orange hand) to your "home" time zone
  3. Push the crown back to position 0
  4. To set the local time: pull to position 2 and adjust the main hands normally
  5. The GMT hand remains on "home" time – read it on the 24h bezel (red = day, blue = night)

Frequently Asked Questions

Is the GMT hand on the Seiko Mod really functional?

Yes, fully functional. Our Seiko Mod GMTs are equipped with the NH34A movement which has a true independent GMT hand, adjustable hour by hour without interfering with the main hands. It is a true GMT complication, not a decorative design.

Which GMT bezel to choose between Pepsi, Batman, and Sprite?

The Pepsi (red/blue) is the timeless classic – a safe choice for a first GMT purchase. The Batman (black/blue) is the most versatile and discreet. The Sprite (green/black) is the most fashionable. If you want a watch that will last for decades: Pepsi. For a contemporary style: Sprite.

What is the difference between NH34 and NH35?

The NH35A is a standard automatic movement (3 hands + date). The NH34A adds an independent 4th GMT hand. Same manufacturing quality, same Seiko reliability – the NH34 is simply the version with the additional GMT complication.
